6 Reasons Why 2014 May Be The Greatest Year For Christian Movies

2014 Christian FilmWe saw some great strides forward in Christian movies in the previous year, but 2014 is shaping up to be the best year for Christian film to date.  No exaggeration needed; the number of films and the size of the budgets are staggering.  And most of these up and coming movies are based on true stories. And many release dates are already set!

The Christian film industry is beginning to mature and come into its own and several big mainstream names are getting involved as well, such as Paramount Pictures.  We are beginning to see amazing progress after decades of what has been an uphill climb for Christian cinema.

Highlights of Christian movies in 2014

  • The major box office releases begin with Son of God on February 24th.  This feature film centering on the full life of Christ was put together by the creators of the Bible Miniseries, the Christian television event that took the world by storm in 2013.
  • On March 28th NOAH comes to the big screen.  This is one of the most anticipated Bible movies to hit theaters in recent days.  With a budget of a $130 million, this release is expected to bring with it spectacle on a grand scale.  While some controversy is following the film, this is a sign that Hollywood is starting to realize that there is a substantial interest and a market for movies on this scale.
  • Later in 2014 we can expect to see Mary Mother of Christ released.  This Christian film, whose budget is rumored to be in the range of $25 million, will center on the life of Mary. This may be the largest budget ever devoted to bringing this story to life.
  • Darren Wilson, the creator of Wanderlust Productions is also working on completing his latest film Holy Ghost.  With a hopeful July 2014 release, this film is expected to raise the bar as one of the most promising up-and-coming Christian documentary film producers draws upon the experience, relationships, and wisdom gained from producing Finger of God, Furious Love, and Father of Lights.
  • And as if that was not enough, the Kendrick Brothers are working on putting together another film during 2014. With no official title yet released, the anticipation and expectation for this film is through the roof. Their last film Courageous was released in 2011 with a budget of $2 million and grossed over $34 million in theaters.

This is just a taste of what is coming in arena of Christian movies for 2014.  What really excites me is that out of these six highlights, at least five of them are confirmed to be based on true stories.

Join with us as we pray that these films and all of the ones yet to be mentioned in 2014 will be a catalyst for truth to work in people’s hearts and lives.

In Christ.
